Membership at Abundant Life
We are a community of just over 225 members, of all ages—a “family-sized” congregation. It is possible to get to know just about everyone’s face, and most by name, as well.

Membership, in the official sense, is not required for you to take part in the life and ministry of ALL. Everyone is welcome to worship, serve, study, and fellowship, however the Spirit moves them to participate.
Members at Abundant Life hail mainly from the municipalities of East St. Paul and St. Clements, and the city of Winnipeg. Some are life-long Lutherans, some have come from other faith traditions, some did not grow up in the church at all but now find a meaningful connection with Christ through the people and ministries here. Some are “official” members and some are active adherents/friends.

Through the Sacrament of Baptism, a person is received into the family of Christ. That rite of baptism also signifies membership in a specific faith community, e.g. ALLC. Confirmation (Affirmation of Baptism) is the rite by which an individual enters into full, voting membership in the congregation. At ALL, this usually takes place for youth around the 11th grade. However, adults who were never baptized or confirmed, following a period of study, may also become members through Baptism and/or Affirmation of Baptism. If you’re from another ELCIC congregation or an Anglican, you can transfer your membership. Or, if you’ve been away from the church for a long time, or belonged to another denomination, Affirmation of Faith is another way to membership. Confusing? Best to call the pastor with questions about your unique situation.

Why does official membership matter? For the sake of good order the ELCIC does have some requirements for its official decision-making processes. So, you need to be a member in good standing to serve on the congregational council, to vote at congregational meetings, or to be a delegate to local, regional or national conventions. The Constitution link has more detailed information about membership.
If you happen to be looking for a church home, we welcome your attendance and participation as you consider ALL becoming your faith community.
